Training Opportunities
George and Rev Chris Holmes developed and offer coach training for people in various contexts. Coaches are trained to utilize a self-discovery approach in working with clients to help them achieve their goals. Coach training also equips people in churches, business and not-for-profit organizations to increase the capacity of their staff and colleagues to attain their goals. OVERVIEW OF TRAINING
Coach Approach Skills Training (CAST) is an approved training program of the International Coach Federation. CAST has trained over 1,000 leaders in the basic and advanced skills of coaching. Each CAST training provides 15 hours of coach-specific training, totaling the 60 hours of training required by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) to be certified. This curriculum includes instructional materials.

Learning Format:
All CAST courses are highly participatory, with many opportunities to practice and evaluate one-on-one coaching. We use a variety of learning styles –coaching demonstrations, individual skills practice, physical movement, guided meditation, and peer learning.
Coaching Introduction and Basic Skills– (CAST 1)
Participants learn the five basic skills of coaching and come away with a written plan for how to use those skills in their life and work. This experience is highly participatory with heavy emphasis on the integration and practice of each basic skill.
This course includes:
Advanced Coaching Skills (CAST 2)
This training deepens the use of the basic skills of coaching while introducing a number of advanced skills being utilized by leaders who are committed to excellence in coaching. Each person will discover their own coaching style after taking the Coaching Style Inventory.
This course includes:
Group and Team Coaching (CAST 3)
Coaching a group or a team is a specialized skill requiring the ability to combine coaching skills with group facilitation. This training addresses the complexity of moving from individual coaching to coaching multiple people in group and team contexts.
This course includes:
Synergy in Coaching (CAST 4)
A series of eight tele-classes enables participants to dive deeper and provides a platform for individual and peer learning around a variety of challenging coaching topics. Participants are divided into groups to coach one another, allowing the opportunity for verbal and written feedback from an instructor. The goal of this course is synergy in coaching.
This course includes:

- 12 hours of Guided Independent Study
- 48 hours of Group Distance Learning
- In person when "stay at home" has been lifted
- 34 hours in- person training - four straight days of intensive skill training led by a team of coach trainers
- 12 hours of Guided Independent Study
- 12 hours virtual sessions following the in person training

This training deepens the use of the basic skills of coaching while introducing a number of advanced skills being utilized by leaders who are committed to excellence in coaching. Each person will discover their own coaching style after taking the Coaching Style Inventory.
This course includes:
- laser informing and truth telling
- hunches, blurts and blunders
- encouragement and celebration
- huge requests and challenges
- metaphors and similes
- discovering your coaching style
Group and Team Coaching (CAST 3)
Coaching a group or a team is a specialized skill requiring the ability to combine coaching skills with group facilitation. This training addresses the complexity of moving from individual coaching to coaching multiple people in group and team contexts.
This course includes:
- the difference between a group and a team
- benefits and challenges of group and team coaching
- stages of team life and development
- establishing a team
- the art of team coaching
Synergy in Coaching (CAST 4)
A series of eight tele-classes enables participants to dive deeper and provides a platform for individual and peer learning around a variety of challenging coaching topics. Participants are divided into groups to coach one another, allowing the opportunity for verbal and written feedback from an instructor. The goal of this course is synergy in coaching.
